I can't tell you the number of times I've gone into a retail store to evaluate it and the owners constantly apologise for having old stock, stuff that isn't selling, stuff that has been there too long. They believe that if they had the latest, trendy items, their sales would turn around. Nonsense!  I say! Every item can be displayed in a multitude of ways to look new, fresh, vibrant, interesting, impressive, fun, and most of all communicate good dollar value!  DON'T DISCOUNT, DISPLAY!

In Velda's store I took old items hiding in the back room, brought them out to the front showroom of her flower shop and displayed them with the methods I teach. I could see the shock on her face (and even shame) until shoppers walked in and were browsing them like they just arrived... AND better than that, her floral designers were picking them up and using them for arrangements! She began to constantly sell through each season of vases, along with the regular stock for babies, weddings, and other standard occasions.

Old but good! This is how my clients today, describe me... they keep hiring me for retail repair or design and I keep doing what I've always done!  The methods, principles, and elements never change, because people are people!  VMP (visual merchandising presentations) is what you SEE. Shoppers still react to what they see... in negative or positive ways.  They still have expectations of what convenience and good service looks like in a store. The products have changed over the years, but the rules are still the same.
